Good Old Days

Sleeping in a closet and it’s cold as hell
Rats in the wall and it’s got that funky old smell
Noises all night cuz the cokeheads are over
There’s no way I’m gonna sleep so I might as well join them
And we’re stacking beer cans and blasting Van Halen
And I’m freezing my ass off and I’m praying and praying
But I can’t ask for help cuz I don’t know how
Couldn’t see it back then but I’m starting to now

You gotta hear me now
Lord don’t you take us back
To those good old days
Keep us on the road
Don’t let us go astray
Help us see the past
In an honest way
So that we may find
The good old days

Another twelve pack of Natural Lite
I can see my own breath in the bedroom
And it’s sunny outside
Day after day and night after night
I just keep on breathing so I can stay alive
And I’m choking down beer and potatoes for dinner
Night after night I keep getting thinner and thinner
All alone in this world all alone in this cell
I have no chains around me but I might as well

You gotta hear me now
Lord don’t you take us back
To those good old days
Keep us on the road
Don’t let us go astray
Help us see the past
In an honest way
So that we may find
The good old days

Looking back the grass wasn’t always greener
Looking at my path I could have gone just a little deeper
Every time every tick of the clock
I guess we do the best we can with what we’ve got
And I don’t wanna go back I don’t wanna forget
Just wanna own it all for what it was worth
And it was my time and it was my life
I was in it to win it and so I rolled the dice

You gotta hear me now
Lord don’t you take us back
To those good old days
Keep us on the road
Don’t let us go astray
Help us see the past
In an honest way
So that we may find
The good old days
