Evolution

I got kicked out for sleeping at the bar in the casino
While the joker keeps winning
And I’m only just beginning to see
It was scribbled on a napkin
I can’t believe I’m back in the same old spot
I keep playing the nickel slots so I can get a beer for free

Outside my window snow is blinding
I’m riding this east bound greyhound line
Thinking maybe I should have buried my roots back home
Because right now letting go seems like jumping off
That old Golden Gate into fog and rain
Across the state line I’m gonna find out what I know

No one said this was gonna be like a religion
No one said you won’t feel some pain
I thought it was all good
But now I’m starting to fidget for a solution
it’s time for a smile and evolution
it’s time for a smile and evolution

I left something behind for the first time
I’m holding in that I’m freaking out
The music’s blaring loud and I’m staring like I belong
Folks are laughing and taking action
I figure out which words to say
Because falling on my face is all I’ve ever known

No one said this was gonna be like a religion
No one said you won’t feel some pain
I thought it was all good
But now I’m starting to fidget for a solution
it’s time for a smile and evolution
it’s time for a smile and evolution

For a few minutes I didn’t even think
About anything anything at all
I feel like maybe this was all somehow meant to be
You’ll never know what ghost may lie around that corner up ahead
If you just stand there instead and never shuffle your feet

No one said this was gonna be like a religion
No one said you won’t feel some pain
I thought it was all good
But now I’m starting to fidget for a solution
it’s time for a smile and evolution
it’s time for a smile and evolution
